FABRICATION OF ARCHITECTURAL STEEL STRUCTURES FOR AHHA PROJECT
At Midwest Precision Inc.,
we are capable of completing large scale projects on time and with a high degree of precision. The architectural structures highlighted here are part of the Hardesty Arts Center (AHHA) located in the heart of Tulsa’s thriving downtown arts district. We fabricated nearly every metal component used on the exterior of this building including signage panels, gutters, window jambs, corner panels, and intricate decorative details. The sizes of these pieces range from 20 lbs. up to 200 lbs.
These architectural elements are made of 14 gauge and 16 gauge COR-TEN®, or weathering steel, which forms an oxidized (rusted) layer on the surface that acts as a barrier to further corrosion. COR-TEN is used in many architecturally exposed steel (AESS) projects to lend a modern aesthetic to the building design. Due to the nature of this material, it has a rough, irregular surface. Our experienced fabricators were able to overcome these challenges and hold tolerances as tight as ±0.03″.
Because we are experienced in providing specialty fabrication as well as production-level work volumes, we are able to complete large projects while meeting tight deadlines. The deadline for these pieces ranged from two weeks to as little as 24 hours. Parts were delivered to the jobsite when needed as construction progressed. The panels and structures seen here were created using laser cutting, punching, and metal forming equipment. Some panels required complete perforation of 0.75″ diameter holes over the entire surface. Our combination CNC punching and laser cutting station is fully automated and able to cut custom hole patterns with maximum efficiency.
