At Midwest Precision Inc., we provide custom metal fabrication with flexible production volume and delivery options. The cross member pictured here is used by a customer in the transportation industry. When the customer places an order, these parts are delivered every other day, with a weekly volume of 5 to 12 pieces. To create this custom cross member, 10 gauge Galvanneal and various thicknesses of A572 HSLA steel sheet and plate are punched or laser cut to shape, holding tolerances as tight as ±0.010”.
We operate an advanced automated CNC punching and laser cutting system capable of creating custom cut shapes without operator intervention. In addition, our 6-axis laser cutting table is able to cut 3D shapes after forming. This provides additional flexibility in determining the optimal fabrication process for a given part design.
After the sheet and plate pieces are formed, they are welded using stitch, seam, and plug welding methods. Each of these methods offers different advantages in strength and distortion characteristics. The finished part is sand blasted and powder coated to customer specifications before delivery.
