At Midwest Precision we are well known as providers of custom sheet metal fabrication services for customers in a range of industries. In the project highlighted here, a customer in the energy industry contracted us for the custom machining of a flag indicator. Our state-of-the-art CNC laser cutting and punching equipment was employed for the precision fabrication of this part. Processes including laser cutting, punching, and spot welding were expertly carried out upon 316L stainless steel to execute the specified form as indicated in the customer supplied engineering drawings. Metal bending techniques were also implemented, achieving angles of 90° and 150°. The part’s Identification number was ink stamped onto the unit, along with the application of an outsourced vinyl decal.
Overall measurements of the finished indicator were 3” in length, 4” in width, and a height of 6”. The completed part weighed 0.25 lb. and exhibited a smooth 2B milled finish. The tightest tolerance of ±.002” was met on the holes sizes as outlined by the ANSI Y14.5 compliant geometric tolerance standard. We fabricate thousands of these units, utilizing a Kanban production option with safety stock for protection against demand fluctuations. Part deliveries are made to Tulsa, OK.
